WILLIAMSPORT — George A. Shamp, 84, 24 Fourth St., Williamsport, died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000 in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been in failing health for the past seven years. He was born July 10, 1915 in Warren County, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Rose Patterson Shamp. He married Mary M. Kennedy Dec. 5, 1936 in Attica, who survives. He was raised in Warren County and attended Judyville and Williamsport schools. He later lived in Miami County near Gilead until moving back to Williamsport where he had lived for several years. He was a farmer, farming in Miami and Warren counties for many years. He later worked as a general contractor for over 25 years, up until his retirement. He was a member of the West Lebanon Christian Church. He was a former member of the Dokie Lodge in Rochester and Fithian Lodge in Akron. He was a member and had held several offices in the Father's Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post #3318 of Attica. Survivors, besides the wife, include: three sons, Richard Shamp, Houston, Texas, Roger (Arlene) Shamp, Clovis, New Mexico, Ralph (Sheri) Shamp, Williamsport; a daughter Barbara (Jarrell) Florey, Williamsport; a sister, Edith Jones, West Point; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five sisters, two brothers and his parents. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica. Burial was in West Lebanon Cemetery.
