SHAMP, Benjamin Franklin - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Benjamin Franklin Shamp, 83, died late last Thursday afternoon at his home in Mellott.  He had been in poor health for the last year but became seriously ill last Tuesday.

Mr. Shamp was born November 8, 1860, the son of George and Rebecca Wilcox Shamp near Akron, Indiana but spent most of his life in Fountain County and was a farmer until he retired and moved into Mellott about 3 years ago.  He was married to Rosa N. Patterson who survives on November 26, 1893. Other survivors include six daughters: Mrs. Arden Miles, Mellott; Mrs. Clarence Phillips, Rossville, Ill; Mrs. Lee Hickman, Attica; Mrs. Cleve Kennedy, Williamsport; Mrs. Murl Cleft, Attica and Mrs. James Jones, Mellott; three sons: Darwin and George of WIlliamsport and Pvt. Chester Shamp.  Pvt. Shamp arrived home last Sunday on a furlough after spending about 14 months in Alaska.  He is now stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the New Antioch Christian Church and burial was made at Salem Cemetery in Davis Twp   --- transcribed by kbz
