HILLSBORO — Arley Shafer, 89, of Hillsboro, died at 8 p.m. Saturday after a long illness. He had been in failing health five years. A native of near Alamo, he was born Aug. 13, 1879 to Thomas and Fannie Shafer. He attended the old Bal Hinch School near Alamo. He was married in Rockville on May 28, 1928 to Flossie D. Bowman, who survives. Also surviving is a stepdaughter, Mrs. Vivian Shepherd of Lafayette. Three brothers and two sisters preceded Mr. Shafer in death. He was a resident of this community the last 37 years. He was employed for years on the Wilt hog farm near Hillsboro and later at the Osborn Lumber Co. here and the Hillsboro School. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home, with Rev. John Servies the minister. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
