Hillsboro -- Vera G. (Gegner) Shade, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 10:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, in Williamsburg Healthcare Center, Crawfordsville. She was born Jan 28 1908, in Waynetown, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Ball Gegner. She married Ernest D. Shade April 2 1927 in Fountain County. He preceded in death in 1978. She formerly worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for C. L. Snyder & Associates in Hillsboro and later for Dr. George Crane at the Hopkins Syndicate in Mellott. She was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women and the church choir. She was also a member of the Cain Township Home Economics Club, Hillsboro Harmony Club and was noted for her quilting even while a resident of Williamsburg Healthcare. Survivors include: a daughter, Lillian J. Davidson, Crawfordsville; a son, Gerald G. (Barbara) Shade, Noblesville; two sisters, Mary Probst, Plymouth and Charlotte Hudson, Crawfordsville; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Allen Sparks officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Hillsboro United Methodist Church. - kbz

Hillsboro - Vera Gegner Shade, 95, formerly of Hillsboro died at 10:20 p.m. Friday AUg 8, 2003 in Williamsburg Healthcare Center, Crawfordsville where she had lived since 2000. Born Jan 28, 1908, in Waynetown, she graduated from Hillsboro HS in 1926 and lived most of her life in Hillsboro. She married Ernest D. Shade on April 2, 1927 in Fountain County. He died in 1978. Mrs. Shade formerly worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for CL Snyder & Associates in Hillsboro and later for Dr. George Crane at the Hopkins Syndicate in Mellott. She was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the choir. She was also a member of the Cain Township Home Economics Club and Hillsboro Harmony Club. Her hobby was quilting. Surviving are a daughter, Lillian J. Davidson of Crafordsville; a son, Gerald G. Shade (wife: Barbara) of Noblesville and two sisters, Mary Probst of Plymouth and Charlotte Hudson of Crawfordsville. Services are Tuesday in Hillsboro. - kbz
