HILLSBORO -- Sherman Shade, 77, a life resident and farmer of this community, died Thursday morning in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville, where he had been for the last month. He had been ill 3 1/2 months. Born near here March 24, 1887, he was a son of Madison and Sarah Gebhart Shade. He was married in Hillsboro Jan. 24, 1917 to Florence Wood, who died Oct. 15 last year. Mr. Shade was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 385 and Fern Chapter of OES, also of this community. Survivors include a son, Charles M. Shade of Hillsboro; a granddaughter, Miss Janie Shade of Hillsboro, and a sister, Mrs. Rosetta Gebhart of Franklin. Preceding Mr. Shade in death were a sister, Mrs. Myrtle DeAth, and brother, Marion Shade. Funeral rites are announced for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home here, with Rev. Arthur Schenck, local Methodist pastor, officiating and interment in Rose Hill Cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home.   --typed by Walt W

Sherman Shade, 77, a life resident and farmer of this community, died Thursday morning in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville where he had been a medical patient for the past month.  He had been ill for three and one half months.
He was born near Hillsboro March 24, 1887, the son of Madison and Saran Gebhart Shade.  He was married in Hillsboro Jan. 24, 1917 to Miss Florence Wood, who died Oct. 15, 1964.
Mr. Shade was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church, Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge 385 and of Fern Chapter of Eastern Star, of Hillsboro.
Survivors include a son, Charles M. Shade and a granddaughter, Miss Janie Shade, both of Hillsboro; a sister, Mrs. Rosetta Gebhart, of Franklin.  He was preceded in death by a sister Mrs. Myrtle DeAth and a brother Marion Shade.
Rev. Arthur Schenck, pastor of the Hillsboro Methodist Church officiated at the funeral service for Sherman Shade, held at  the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro Saturday afternoon. Organ music was by Mary Louise Newman. Serving with the flowers were: Joe Newman, Homer McDonald Jr., Dave Coffing, Don Seymour, Bennie Townsend and Charles C. Parker.  Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
