Mellott -- Homer Winfred Shade, 73, a native of Mellott died Wednesday morning in his residence at Danville, Ill. Retired from the Danville VA Hospital, he was a member of Mellott United Church of Christ, Danville Moose Lodge 1001 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a graduate of Veedersburg HS and a US Army Veteran of WWI. BOrn Jan 13, 1899, he was a son of Hiram and Edith Carpenter Shade. He was married Dec 29, 1925 in Crawfordsville to Stella Corbin, who died Nov 9, 1947. He was married on Nov 27, 1951 to Dora Carroll, who died March 25, 1971. Survivors include three sons, Jay Shade of Lafayette, John Shade of Kalispell, Mont and Lee Shade of Denver, Colo; a step daughter Mrs. Ralph Smith of Champaign Ill; a step son, Lee Hopkins of WIlmington Ill; a brother, Theodore K. Shade of Denver, Colo; 8 grandchildren and one great grand daughter. Funeral seravices will be at Crumley-William Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. James E. Williams Jr. of Danville. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Friday.

Mellott – A former Mellott resident, Homer W. Shade, 73 of Danville, Ill, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning in his home.  Mr. Shade, a native of Mellott, graduated from Veedersburg HS. He was a retired employee of the Veterans Administration Hospital at Danville.  He was first married in 1925 to Stella Corbin who died in 1947. In 1951 he married Dora Carroll and she died in 1971.  He was a member of the Mellott United Church of Christ, Moose Lodge 1001 at Danville and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.  He was a veteran of WWI.  Surviving are three sons, Jay of Lafayette; John of Kalispell, Mont and Lee of Denver, Colo; a stepson, Lee Hopkins of Wilmington, Ill; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ralph Smith of Champaign, Ill and a brother, Theodore K of Denver, Colo.
