Hillsboro - Elouise Jane Remster Shade, 89, formerly of Hillsboro died Wednesday, Dec 24, 2008 at St. Andrews Health Care Campus in Batesville. She had been residing in Batesville. Born Oct 11, 1919 in Stone Bluff, she was the daughter of the late Holford Meeker and Nell Timmons Remster. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1937 and Indiana State Teachers College in 1941 majoring in music and commerce and received a master's degree in music education from Indiana State Univeristy in 1965.  She married Charles Madison Shade on June 1, 1942 in Seattle, Wash. He died July 25, 1993.  

For 31 years, she taught for Fountain County schools, teaching in Hillsboro HS, Richland Township schools and Southeast Fountain Elementary School.  She worked with students in preparation for solo and ensemble contests, and took bands to the Indiana State Fair Farm Bureau Band Day competitionand contest for band and concert bands.  Her band and chorus participated in the annual countywide band and choral festivals.

Mrs. Shade was a member of Hillsboro United Methodist Church and began the church's adult choir in 1955. She was a 50-year member of the local Delta Kappa Gamma organization, a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, was involved with Hillsboro Harmony Club, served on community and church committees was supportive of local charities and set up a fund to assist the local Hillsboro churches.

During the winters in Green Valley, Ariz, she sand with the choir of the Valley Presbyterian Church, played with the bell choir and was a member of the Green Valley Community chorus. Surviving is a daughter, Jane Link (husband: James) of Sunman.  Also surviving are a granddaughter, Julia Kay Link and great granddaughter, Logan Kay Link, both from Sunman; a grandson, Jeremy Charles (Jessi) Link, Cincinnati; a great niece, Kendy Brosh (Kurt) Smith, who lives with her family in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sally Jean Shade.  

Friends may be received at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Sunday Dec 28, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be at Hillsboro United Methodist Church Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastors Larry Ray, Matt Swisher and Mike Link officiating. Interment Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.  Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Elouise J.
