DANVILLE, Ill. — Clarence H. Sears, 89, Danville, Ill., died at 9:07 p.m. Friday, June 25, 1999 in Covington Manor Nursing Center. Born June 24, 1910 in Danville, the son of Bert and Minnie (Gatterman) Sears. He married Ruth Gelwick May 22, 1936 in Watseka. She preceded him in death Sept. 10, 1994. He was a graduate of Danville High School. He was employed for 27 years with Hegeler Zinc, Allith Prouty for five years, and 15 years as office manager of Vermilion Service. He then worked part time for Vermilion Service for an additional 11 years. He attended St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. He was a past member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed bowling and bowled for over 50 years, liked sports and ushering at church. Survivors include: daughter, Sharon (Douglas) Young, Veedersburg; grandchildren, Kristin Tornsbrough, Indianapolis, and Chad and Troy of Bardwell, Ky. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Elmer; and sister, Francis. Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Tom Dougherty officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorials contributions can be made to St. James United Methodist Church. – jlr
