Helen Mary (Oakes) Scheurich, 90, 106 David Dr., Attica, died Sunday, March 14, 1999 at 5:30 p.m. in Country Care Nursing Center, Williamsport. Born near Olney, Illinois on October 3, 1908, she was the daughter of Aloys and Martha (Spitz) Oakes. She formerly had lived in the Portland Arch community from 1943 until she moved to Attica in 1985. Mrs. Scheurich had served on the Board of Directors for the Area IV Council on Aging in Lafayette and on the Fountain-Warren County Council on Aging. She was a member of St. Frances Xavier Church, Attica and served on the Ladies Guild at the church. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Covington and the Upper Level Senior Citizens Club of Attica. Her marriage was to John A. Scheurich on February 7, 1928 in Urbana, Ill. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1992. Surviving, are: two sons, Donald (Betty) Scheurich of Attica and Kenneth (Ann) Scheurich of Covington; two sisters, Frances Bleichner of Coca Beach, Fla. and Kathryn Walker of Villa Grove, Ill.; a brother, Lawrence Oakes of Urbana; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers. Visitation was Tuesday at Maus Funeral Home, with a Christian Wake service. Service on Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Church with Rev. Charles Kline officiating. Interment in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. – jlr

She formerly resided in the Portland Arch community from 1943 until relocating to Attica in 1985. She served on the Board of Directors for the Area IV Council on Aging in Lafayette and on the Fountain-Warren County Council on Aging. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Attica and served on the Ladies Guild at the church. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Covington and the Upper Level Senior Citizens Club of Attica. Survivors include: sons, Donald (Betty) Scheurich, Attica, Kenneth (Ann) Scheurich, Covington; sisters, Frances Bleichner, Cocoa Beach, Fla., Kathryn Walker, Villa Grove, Ill.; brother, Lawrence Oakes, Urbana, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by six brothers. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Francis Xavier Church, Attica, with the Rev. Charles Kline officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Attica. – jlr
