Hillsboro - Charles E. SCHERMERHORN, a 75-year-old retired farmer died at his Hillsboro home at 9:30 p.m. Monday of a heart ailment. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Phi Delta Fraternity and graduate of Attica HS and Indiana Central Business College. He attended DePauw University. Mr. Schermerhorn was born June 23, 1886 near Newtown. His parents were Allen and Rhoda H. Martin Schermerhorn. On Dec 28, 1909, he was married to Ethel Gebhart at Newtown. He was a farmer until 1932 when he moved to Hillsboro. Survivors include his wife, one son, Van of Indianapolis; one grandson, David and one nephew, Allen Randolph of Covington. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lura Randolph and an infant son. Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Crumley Funeral Home here. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Charles E. Schermerhorn, age 75, resident of Hillsboro for the past 29 years and uncle of Allen Randolph, 1016 Liberty St., died at 9:30 p. m. Monday, Aug. 7, at his home. He had been ill with a heart condition. Mr. Schermerhorn was born June 23, 1886, near Newtown, the son of Allen C. and Rhonda E. Martin Schermerhorn. He was married Dec. 28, 1909, at Newtown, to Ethel Gebhart, who survives. He was a graduate of the Attica High School and the Central Business College. He also attended DePauw University, Greencastle, and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He also was a member of the Newtown Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He had farmed until 1932 when he moved into Hillsboro. He retired in 1953. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: one son, Van of Indianapolis; one grandson; and a nephew, Allen Randolph of Covington. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Aug. 10, at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will be in the Newtown Cemetery.   --typed by Walt W
