Covington—The body of Harry Sawyer, 64 year old Fountain County farmer who lived four miles southeast of Covington, was recovered from the Wabash River Monday afternoon.
Discovery of the body, according to authorities, followed finding an unsigned note in Mr. Sawyer’s automobile. It read: “I don’t see nothing to live for. I have everything fixed the way I want it. I’m going to the river.”
Coroner Charles Fishero of Veedersburg returned a verdict of suicide.
The body was discovered by Ivan Hayden of Covington about 60 feet south of the Big Four Railroad bridge. A sweater and jacket belonging to Mr. Sawyer was seen on the bridge Friday afternoon. His car was noticed parked on Fourth Street near the courthouse Saturday. When it was still there Monday morning, Covington police investigated and found the note.
Surviving are several cousins in Danville, Ill. Mr. Sawyer had never married. – S&E
