Veedersburg – Bert E. Sarjent, 71, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill. He had been in failing health for some time. He was born Aug 31, 1896 the son of William and Martha Johnston Sarjent of Milford, Ill. He was married June 16, 1918 to Ruby Alexander at Milford. He served in the US Army during WWI. He was a farmer. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion, Charles Forrest Post 288 of Veedersburg. He was a member of the Modern Woodsman Lodge of Milford. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Martha) Gossett and Mrs. Richard (Jean) Swift of Attica; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter and one brother. Services were held today June 26 at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home with 3:00 p.m. services at the Barker Funeral Home, Milford. Rev. Mrs. Edith Bruner and Rev. Earl Carmichael officiated with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Milford. – kbz

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. (CNS) – Bert E. Sarjent, 72, of Veedersburg Route 4, died at 1:40 p.m. yesterday (June 24, 1968) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. He had been in failing health for several months. Born Aug. 31, 1896, in Milford, Ill., he was the son of William and Martha Johnston Sarjent. He was married June 16, 1918, in Milford to Ruby Alexander, who survives. Mr. Sarjent had been a farmer. He was a veteran of service in the Army during World War I. He was a 50-year member of the Charles Forrest American Legion Post 288 and Modern Woodmen Lodge. Others survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Martha Gossett and Mrs. Jean Smith, both of Attica; a sister, Mrs. Laura Martin of Attica; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son and a brother. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Parham Funeral Home in Milford. The Rev. Mrs. Edith Bruner and the Rev.
