COVINGTON — Leah Beatrice Sanders, 86, Covington, died at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001 in The Waters of Covington, where she had resided for six years. She was born Sept. 18, 1915 in Portland Arch, the daughter of Charles Harrison and Golda Mae Watts Kaler. She married James Eugene Sanders Aug. 10, 1935 in Goshen. He preceded in death March 10, 1997. She was a life resident of the Portland Arch area, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Fountain Christian Church, Fountain County Historical Society and a charter member of Indiana Covered Bridge Society. Survivors include: a son, Charles Eugene (Betty) Sanders, Covington; three daughters, Beverly Sanders, Carrboro, N.C., Patricia Hambright, Covington and Nancy (Robert) Pearson, Veedersburg; six grandchildren, Dennis Sanders, Denise Sanders Current, Tina Sanders, Sarah Boone, Emily Boone and Glenda Hambright Murray; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, an infant son and a grandson, Alan Pearson. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Gary Johnson officiating. Burial was in Fountain (Portland Arch) Cemetery. – jlr
