Leroy Sanders, widely known tax attorney and one of the authors of the Indiana Gross Income Tax Law, died late last night in Methodist Hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Sanders, 78 years old, had been in the hospital about five weeks. His home was at 5151 Washington Boulevard. In his early life he lived in Fountain County. A graduate of Indiana University School of Law, he was Fountain County clerk during his early career. For many years he had practiced law in Indianapolis, specializing in the tax field. After helping write the state’s income tax law, he was appointed by former Governor Paul V. McNutt as consultant in the formation of the Gross Income Tax Division created by the law. Mr. Sanders was active in Indiana University alumni affairs and was president of the I Men’s Association for many years. The university honored him with a special citation last year. He was a member of the Indianapolis Athletic Club in addition to bar associations and other organizations. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Nora Sanders. Funeral arrangements are being made by Flanner & Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary. – kbz

Services for Leroy Sanders, 78, tax attorney and one of the authors of the Indiana Gross Income Tax law, will be held in Flanner & Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary with entombment in Crown Hill mausoleum. No time has been set. He died last night in Methodist Hospital. His home was at 5151 Washington Blvd. A resident of Fountain County in his early life, Mr. Sanders was a graduate of the IU School of Law and during his early career was Fountain County clerk. He practiced law many years in Indianapolis specializing in the tax field. As coauthor of the Gross Income Tax law, Mr. Sanders was named by former Governor Paul V. McNutt as consultant in the formation of the GIT Division created by the law. Mr. Sanders was an active member of the Indiana University Alumni Association and its affairs and for many years was president of the I-Men’s Association. Last June the university honored him by conferring on him the distinguished alumni award. This was presented to him personally in the hospital by President Herman B. Wells. He was a charter member of the Highland Golf & Country Club and member of the Indianapolis Atheletic Club as well as the Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Columbia Club, bar associations, Lutheran Church and Atheneum.
