COVINGTON — Floyd Arthur (Sandy) Sanders, 56, Covington, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 in Provena USMC Sager Campus, Danville, Ill. He was born April 19, 1944 in Danville, Ill., the son of Floyd Owen and Mary Louise Crowder Sanders. He married Frances Lane June 25, 1988. She survives. He had resided in Covington for 25 years. He was an Army veteran of the 11th Armored Cavalry serving in the Canal Zone and Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Bronze Star. He had been a drill sergeant. He was a member of Post #2395 VFW of Covington, Post #52 American Legion of Attica, IBEW Local #538 AFL-CIO, and the Black Horse Association. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a daughter, Ellen Godfrey, Garland, Texas; a brother, Gordon Bradfield, Oakwood, Ill.; a grandson, Christopher Godfrey; two nephews; and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; a son, Gordon Carl; a daughter, Theresa Louise; and a nephew. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Gary Witt officiating. Burial was in Danville National Cemetery with military services by the VFW and American Legion. – jlr
