WEST POINT — James Virlen Sandefur, 70, 7404 Turner Road, West Point, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 in Home Hospital, Lafayette, where he had been a patient one week. He was born April 25, 1930 in Tazewell, Tenn. He married Anna Ruth Hatfield Nov. 19, 1949 in Middlesboro, Ky. She survives. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of West Point Lions Club. He had resided in West Point since 1966. He and his wife owned and operated Attica Dry Cleaners, retiring in 1992. Previously, he was a truck driver for Irvin Concrete and worked at Purdue University electrical shop. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a son, Donnie T. (Jane) Sandefur, West Point; a sister, Jewell (James) Richardson, Lafayette; two grandchildren, Shay L. Sandefur Meihls and Tiffany J. Sandefur, both of West Point; a great-grandson, Hunter Michael Meihls; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louella Jones. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. Burial with American Legion graveside services were at West Point Cemetery.
