Silverwood – Joseph B. Samuels, age 81, a life resident of this area, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday Sept 14 in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill, where he had been a patient about two weeks. Mr. Samuels was a retired farmer. Earlier he was employed as a railroader. He was a member of the Cayuga Lodge 584, F&AM and the Old Baptist Church at Lodi. A Silverwood native, he was born Jan 14, 1886 the son of Edward and Elizabeth Hobart Samuels. He was married to Susie Jones in 1908 and she preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, Verner of Danville, Ill and Lyle of Newberg, Ind; two daughters, Mrs. Irene Whittington of Kingman Rt 2 and Mrs. Helen Sprouls of Crawfordsville; a brother Lewis of Kingman Rt 2; a sister, Mrs. Anna Wann also of Kingman Rt 2; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1943, one son, one daughter and one brother. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated and burial was in Silver Island Cemetery near Silverwood. Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home Friday night. – kbz
