DANVILLE, Ill. — Verner Alexander Samuels, 93, 116 South Gilbert St., Danville, Ill., died at 3:06 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001 at his residence. He was born Sept. 24, 1908 in Clinton, the son of Joseph B. and Susie Jones Samuels. He married Almeda C. Clingan, she survives. He graduated from Cayuga High School and was a Cayuga resident until 1957 when they moved to Danville. He had been employed as a security guard at Newport Ordinance Plant, G.E., GM and retired as superintendent of guards at Danville Area Community College in 1979. He was a 50-year member of Unity Lodge #344 F. & A.M., Danville Scottish Rite and Vermillion County Low Twelve Club. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a son, Stanley Samuels, Danville, Ill.; a brother, Edward Lyle Samuels, Covington; a sister, Helen Sprouls, Winona Lake; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, a brother and two sisters. Gravesite services were at 11. a.m. Friday in Silver Island Cemetery, Kingman, with Paul Ray, Jr. officiating. – jlr
