John Emmett "Jack" Ryan, age 64, of 1006 Alhambra Ave., Frankfort, a former resident of Attica and Covington, died at 8:15 a. m. Monday, Jan. 17, in Clinton County Hospital at Frankfort. He had been a patient one day but, had been ill six months.
He was born in Hammond April 4, 1901, the son of Thomas J. and Mary McMahon Ryan. He had resided in Covington for several years and had attended school in Covington and later operated a restaurant for a short time. He resided in Attica 23 years where he operated Ryan's Cafe 12 years. He moved to Frankfort 10 years ago.
Mr. Ryan had worked as a brakeman on the Michigan Central Railroad in Detroit and on the Nickel Plate line in Frankfort. He later trained race horses in Frankfort He was a member of the Catholic Church. He was married Oct. 16, 1930, to Zada Morgan, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to the wife, is one nephew, Tom Ryan of California. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Services were at 11 a.m EST Thursday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev Donald Vernon officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
