COVINGTON — Mary Evelyn Russell,
88, Covington, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 in The Water of
Covington. She was born Oct. 6, 1918 in Hume, Ill., the daughter of Edward and
Emma Jane (Staley) Dick. She married Roy Clarence Russell May 6, 1938 in
Danville, Ill. After 57 years of marriage, he preceded in death Dec. 30, 1995.
She lived most of her adult life in the Danville, Ill. and the Perrysville
areas, also living 18 years in Lake Panasoffkee, Fla. She was employed at the
Danville V. A. Hospital and as a housekeeper in Danville and Covington. She
also worked in the Lake Panasoffkee public schools. She was an active member of
the Oaklawn Presbyterian Church in Danville and later the Perrysville and Lake
Panasoffkee United Methodist Churches. She especially loved quilting,
gardening, music, reading and cooking for family gatherings. Survivors include:
six children, Bill, Tacoma, Wash., Ron, Danville, Rosemary French, Covington,
Connie Russell, Kenosha, Wis., Don, Danville, and Mike, Perrysville; and many
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was also
preceded in death by three sisters, Louise, Annabelle and Mabel; and two
brothers, John Henry and Charles. A memorial gathering and celebration will be
at 10 a.m. Saturday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. Memorial contributions
may be made to Serenity Hospice, 1221 S. Creasy Lane, Lafayette, Ind. 47905. – jlr
