Services for James A. Romine, 74, former Danville landscaper who was killed yesterday afternoon (Feb. 14, 1967) when the roadgrader he was driving on U. S. Route 41 near Kingman was struck by a tractor-trailer unit, will be at 2 p.m. EDT Friday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. A reckless homicide charge has been filed against the trucker, Eulues Taylor, 39, of Grand Rapids, Mich., who was driving a unit owned by a Grand Rapids transport firm. Taylor is being held in the Fountain County Jail. Bond has been set at $5,000. State Trooper Don Null who filed the charge against Taylor said the accident occurred near the Morgan Coal Co. nine miles south of Veedersburg on open highway under bright sunlight. Mr. Romine was employed by the Fountain County Highway Department. The accident occurred at 1:10 p.m. when Mr. Romine was driving a grader north on the highway. The tractor-trailer unit reportedly struck the grader from behind, knocking Romine from it. The front end of the truck-tractor was badly damaged and the highway grader was demolished, investigators said. Sheriff Art Cruea and Fountain County Coroner Bob Shelby assisted in the investigation. Shelby attributed death to multiple injuries. The Sever Funeral Home of Veedersburg was called to the scene. Romine was a Kingman Route 2 resident seven years, moving from Danville where he operated a landscaping business for 42 years. He had been employed by the highway department two years. Born in Troy Township northeast of Covington Nov. 24, 1892, he was the son of Cleveland S. and Hattie Zane Romine. On June 25, 1919, he married the former Marvia Layton who survives. Also surviving are two sons, James A. Jr. and Keith L. Romine, and two daughters, Mrs. James (Pauline) Emery and Mrs. Michael (Gretchen) Supp, all of Danville; a brother, Robert Romine of Bloomington, Ind., and four sisters, Mrs. June Shuff of Hoopeston, Mrs. Fay Coplea of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Flossie Crouse of Indianapolis and Mrs. Flora Ludlow of Veedersburg. There are nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Romine was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville. The Rev. John Meyer of Lodi and the Rev. J. T. Myers of Danville will conduct services. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon and evening.   --typed by Walt W
