Covington—Stanley Eugene “Gene” Rodgers, 68, Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Covington, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 1989 at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital.
He was born Aug. 12, 1920 in Armstrong, Ill., the son of Stanley and Mae Allison Rodgers.
He attended Warren County schools and served in the United States Navy from Dec. 4, 1941 to Oct. 3, 1945, during World War II. He was a gunners’ mate on the U.S.S. Colorado.
He retired from Sun Oil Co. in Youngstown, where he had worked for 26 years. He was a member of the VFW in Youngstown.
Surviving are a brother, Howard, Route 2, Williamsport; a sister, Mrs. LaMoyne (Martha) O’Connell, Danville, Ill.; three nephews; two nieces; three aunts, Ruth French, Veedersburg; Helen Leaf, Crystal Lake, Ill., and Dorothy Hickman, Route 2, Williamsport; several cousins and a close friend, Sophia Mattson, Girard, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herbert.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with the Rev. Grover Williams officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, with military services. -s
