William L. Roberts, of Indianapolis, was killed about 4:30 Christmas Eve, when he was struck by a truck which was backing out of a parking place on a street in Indianapolis. Mr. Roberts had been in a nearby grocery to purchase a turkey for the family Christmas dinner and was crossing the street when to take a bus to his home when the accident occurred. He died enroute to a hospital.
Mr. Roberts was born April 6, 1875 son of GM and Frana Harper Roberts and had lived in Veedersburg most of his early life. He had been a resident of Indianapolis the past 40 years.
He is survived by 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a son-in-law, Maurice Rooker, with whom he lived and a sister, Mrs. Carrie Simpson of Veedersburg. He was preceded in death by his wife who died July 18, 1946 an infant son and his only daughter who was killed in a train-auto crash Feb 1, 1947. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mrs. Blanche McBroom and a brother, Everette E. Roberts, who died suddenly Feb 15, 1949. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Sterling Funeral Home with burial at Washington Park Cemetery, Indianapolis Mr. and Mrs. Guy Simpson and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Clore attended the funeral services, also Mr. and Mrs. William Simpson and Miss Dorothy Simpson, Crawfordsville, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Simpson and daughter, Lafayette and Mrs. FE Stucker of Indianapolis.
