Rev. and Mrs. Perry Riley of Sterling received a telegram Thursday evening from the War Department stating that their son, M-Sgt Ora Ray Riley, who has been serving with the US 25th Airboren Division in Korea was killed on July 6th. Riley enlisted in the service Dec 26, 1947 and had served overseas for the past 25 months. He was to have come home for a furlough in August. Born in Parke County on Sept 28, 1928 he was the son of Perry and Irene Crowder Riley who survive. Other survivors are two brothers, Dale and Charles and three sisters, Elcie, Mary and Maxine all at home.

Veedersburg, July 14 – M. Sgt Ora R. Riley, 22, son of Rev. and Mrs. Perry Riley of Veedersburg was killed in action in Korea July 6, the parents were notified by the Department of Defense yesterday.  The father is a Church of God minister. The soldier was serving with the 25th Airborne Division and was scheduled to come home on furlough in August.  He had been overseas two years and had been in military service since his enlistment Dec 26, 1947.  Survivors besides his parents are two brothers and three sisters: Elsie, Mary, Maxine, Dale and Charles, all at home    --transcribed by kbz
