COVINGTON — Joseph Richard Riley,
84, 2502 Bunkertown Road, Covington, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 in
Heritage House, Clinton. He was born Aug. 4, 1916 in Covington, the son of
David Clarence Riley and Grace Chatt. He married Elva B. Hargis Sept. 25, 1945
in Somerset, Ky. She preceded in death Oct. 5, 1980. He was a life resident of
Bunkertown and attended Snoddy and Stringtown schools. He was a veteran of the
U. S. Army, during World War II. He worked for 20 years at Fountain Foundry. He
was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Modern Woodmen, Kingman American
Legion Post and Fountain County Old Guard Post #2395 VFW. Survivors include:
two nieces Jean (Tom) Cook, Kingman and Carmen Boord, Grand Island, Neb.; and
nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a son, Richard Lee
Riley. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Saturday in Shelby Funeral Home,
Covington, with the Rev. William C. Nickle officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope
Cemetery, Covington. Military services at the grave were by the American Legion
and VFW. – jlr
