RILEY, Alonzo (Lon)

Lon Riley, son of Pete Riley and wife, dropped dead Monday morning while on his way to husk corn on the John R. Teegarden place. Mr. Riley had arose at his usual hour and was apparently in good health. He left his home, near the Friends church, and went east by way of the C. & S.W. power station. He had started across the pasture to where his brother, James Riley, lives on the Teegarden farm. Mrs. James Riley saw him coming and when he did not get to the house as soon as she thought he should, she went to look for him. The woman was horrified to see him lying on the ground a few yards from the house. She ran to the prostrate man, but life was extinct when she arrived. She at once called her husband, who also examined the body. Mr. Teegarden was called and the two men carried the body into the house. Coroner Parham, of Veedersburg, and Dr. Wert were notified, and in the meantime the body was brought to his home in this place. After a thorough investigation and a post mortem examination in the presence of all three physicians of this place, the coroner returned a verdict to the effect that death was caused by apoplexy. Deceased was widely known in Kingman and vicinity, having lived here the greater part of his life. He is survived by a bereaved wife, seven children, an aged father and mother, five brothers, three sisters and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Friends church by the pastor, Rev. Pliny Cox, enterment being made in the Cooper cemetery.
