Melvin Richey, Jr., 76, of Veedersburg, died at 8:13 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2001 in VA Medical Center, Danville, Illinois. Born December 22,1924 in Paris, Illinois, he was the son of the late Melvin and Jennie (Augustus) Richey. He married Wilma Wall on August 9, 1946 in Veedersburg. She survives. Mr. Richey attended school in Paris and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He had been a resident of Veedersburg since 1945 and operated Richey’s Sewer Service for over 30 years, before retiring. He also had been a welder at Dri-All Grain Dryers for several years. Also surviving, are: two daughters, Penny Richey of Texas Ransom Canyon, Texas and Linda (Stephen) Steed of Indianapolis; three sons, Dennis (Rhonda) Richey of Logansport, Gary (Reva) Richey of Covington and Jeff (Barbara) Richey of Wingate; three sisters, Audrey (Cecil) Carroll of Industry, Illinois, Bona Fulkerson of Kingman (Yeddo), and Mary (Bob) Clendenen of Monticello; one brother, David “Dick” (Margaret) Richey of Covington; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Visitation was Wednesday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. Service there on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Cecil Carroll officiating.
