Mellott, March 29 – Florence O. (Keyt) Rice, 74, died at her home near here at 8 o’clock this evening. Mrs. Rice was born near Newtown Dec 31, 1862 and married James Rice July 30, 1880. She was a member of the Christian Congregational church of Mellott. Surviving are six daughters: Mrs. Hugh DeAth of near here; Mrs. Homer Riester of here; Mrs. Myron Dice of near Veedersburg; Miss Ruby Rice of Auburn; Miss Waneta Rice of Pierpont; and Miss Oveta Rice of Newtown; and three sons, Clarence of near here; Grover at home and James of here; and a sister, Mrs. Pleas Boot (sic) of Newtown. Funeral services will be conducted from the Mellott Christian Congregational Church at 1:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. JE Fry officiating. Burial will be in the Old Baptist Cemetery. – kbz
Mrs. Florence Olivia Rice, 74, resident of Mellott since 1896, died at 8 o'clock Monday night at her home Her death followed a lingering path illness with a complication of diseases.. Mrs. Rice was born Dec 1, 1862 near Newtown, the daughter of Edwin and Louisa Voliva Keyt. She married July 30, 1880, to James Rice at Newtown. The deceased was a former resident of Montgomery County. Survivors include the following children Mrs. Ruth DeAth near Mellott; Clarence Rice, near Mellott; Grover Rice at home; Mrs. Homer Riester, Mellott; Mrs. Myron Dice near Veedersburg; Miss Ruby Rice, teacher at Auburn, James Rice, Mellott; Miss Waneta Rice, teacher at Pierpont, Ind and Miss Oveta Rice, teacher at Newtown; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Mellott Christian Congressional Church of which she was a member, in charge of Rev. J.E. Fry at Hillsboro.
