WAYNETOWN -- Schuyler C. Reynolds, a native of Brookston, died Friday, March 19, 1965, at the Battle Ground Nursing Home where he had his 100th birthday Thursday, March 18. He had been at the nursing home 20 months. He had been a frequent visitor at Waynetown where he was the guest of his cousin, Rev. Guy E. Tremaine. When a resident of Lafayette, Mr. Reynolds had been a conductor on the city's streetcars when they were mule-drawn. He later took the first electrically operated streetcar to the State Soldiers Home. An expert hunter he killed his first deer when he was 10 years old and at 97 got his quota of squirrels. At the age of 90 he rode his bicycle from Battle Ground to Lafayette, a distance of some eight miles. He had remained in excellent health until 20 months ago. Mr. Reynolds was born in a log cabin on a farm near Brookston when Brookston consisted of three houses, and he was the grandson of one of the first settlers in White County. He was named for Schuyler Colfax, Republican Congressman from Indiana in 1854-68 and vice president under President Ulysses S. Grant. He was first married in 1890 to Ellen Best who died in 1909. His second marriage was to Martha Peters who died in 1950. Surviving are two sons, Oren, Des Moines, Iowa, and Ralph of Battle Ground; two daughters, Mrs. M. E. Morehouse, Royal Center, and Mrs. Bessie Tharp, of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. A son, Leland, was killed in 1943 near Clinton, Ill., when his plane crashed. Rev. Tremaine officiated at funeral services, 2 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson Funeral Home, Brookston. Burial was in the Montmorenci Cemetery. Rev. Tremaine is 85 and is now the oldest member of his relatives. --typed by Walt W

WAYNETOWN -- Schuyler Reynolds, who was 100 years old last Thursday, died Friday at a nursing home in Battle Ground. He had often visited here with relatives. Early in life Reynolds was a farmer and later served as a street car motorman in Lafayette for many years. The survivors include two sons, Orrin, who lives in Oregon, and Ralph of near Battle Ground and two daughters, Mable and Bessie. Rev. Guy E. Tremaine, 85-year-old Waynetown pastor who was a cousin will be in charge of the funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Brookston Funeral Home. --typed by Walt W
