COVINGTON – George Reiff, 78, a life resident of the Foster community west of Covington, died 4:05 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Danville, Ill. He had been ill several years and seriously ill the past two months. He had been a patient at the hospital since August. He retired from farming in 1959. Mr. Reiff was born Oc. 8, 1894, in Foster, the son of Ludwic and Mary Louella Siddens Reiff. He was married Dec. 29, 1917, to Emma Christine Oehmke, who survives. He was a charter member of the Fountain County Old Guard Post No. 2395, V.F.W., a member of Covington Barracks 1995, Veterans of World War I, and a member of Benson Chapel Methodist Church. He served 19 months in the Army, 1917-19, with the 105th Regiment Engineer’s Co. F. Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Mrs. Mary F. Reiff of North Vernon; three sisters, Mrs. Frances Kirkham, North Vernon; Mrs. Mary Gillman, Carrollton, Tex.; Mrs. Ethel Crumley, Evansville; two brothers, Ben, of Covington, Rt. 2; Wilmer, of Deputy; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hegg Funeral Home at Covington with Rev. Jack Wagoner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery where military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Covington V.F.W. Post.  – jlr
