John Linsley Reichard, son of William and Esther (Yount) Reichard was born on November 28 1860, near Thomasville, N. C., and departed this life at his home on East Green street, Urbana, Ill., on the morning of February 8 1940, at the age of 79 years, 2months and 11 days.   His father and mother and eight brothers and sisters had preceded him in death.   He was united with the Freedom Christian church 52 years ago, and then in 1911 he and his family moved to Urbana, where he transferred his membership to the Congregational Christian church and continued a consistent member of the same to the hour of his going away.  In 1903 he became a member of the Modern Woodman lodge and about 15 years ago he was united with the Knights of Pythias in Urbana.   His early manhood was spent on the farm and throughout life, took a keen interest in all that pertained in agricultural life and the products of the soil.   For a number of years he was engaged in the coal and grain business, first at Yeddo, Ind., and later in Veedersburg, and for a time after coming to Urbana.   He retired from active business life 15 years ago.   Mr. Reichard's father and grandfather were potters, coopers and singing school masters.  His ancestry dates back to the early settlers and forefathers of the eastern colonies.   The family were participants in the Civil War, and belong to that sturdy pioneer life that gave character and stability to those early days of the Republic.  Mr. Reichard was a self made man, coming from a parent stock of industrious, genial and God fearing generation, whose highest ambition was to provide both material and spiritual help to both family and community.   he had no keener joy than when to the measure of his ability, he could help those who needed help.  On the 15th of April 1886, he was united in marriage to Maria E. Shoaf, at Wallace, Ind.   To this union was born six children, four boys and two girls:   Sylvester H. of Fithian, David W., Wrista W. and Cecil S. of Urbana, Mrs. Della Green of Oakwood and Mrs. Ura Colbert of Urbana. Besides these he leaves to mourn his going from us, his devoted wife and companion of the years, and twelve grandchildren, Robert, Roberta, and Gail Green, Lois Colbert Williamson, Harold James Jr., Jacqueline and Donald Lee Colbert, David Warren and Chloe Reichard, and Jerry and Richard Wayne Reichard.   There are two great-grandchildren, James R. Colbert III and Jon Roger Williamson.   Five grandchildren are now attending the Thornburn Junior High school.  Two grandchildren preceded him in death, Ardoine Reichard and Helen Marie Colbert. Mr. Reichard is also survived by one brother, Lee Reichard of Crawfordsville, Ind., and a number of more distantly related relatives, and a host of friends who bear witness to his sterling worth.  His last concern was for the spiritual life of himself, and all his family.  And his greatest regret was that the time had at last come when these rich and lasting human relationships that had meant so much to him across the years, must be finally severed. - kbz
