Covington, Ind. (CNS) -- Charles Joseph Reffett Sr., 75, of Covington Route 2, died at 5:30 a.m. today (Jan. 7, 1967) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Janette Machledt of West Lebanon. He had resided in the Gopher Hill community since 1933. He was a safety inspector for the Hegeler Zinc Co. mines for 20 years and also worked for the Peabody Coal Co. in Danville, West Frankfort, Centralia and Taylorville. He last worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville for five years and retired in 1958. Born April 15, 1891 in Grape Creek, Ill., he was the son of Eli and Elva Nier Reffett. He married Hetti Adkins June 8, 1918 at Little Rock, Ark., and she survives. He served in World War I in France and England, was a member of the American Legion, World War I Barracks, VFW and Odd Fellows. He attended State Line Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Surviving in addition to the widow are a son, Charles Jr. of Covington; the daughter, Janette; three brothers, John of Nyssa, Ore., Harry of St. Bernice, and Walter of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha West of Ridgefarm, Mrs. Iva Wills of Danville; and Mrs. Martha Phelps of Chicago; a grandchild and five step grandchildren. The body is at the Hegg Funeral Home and friends may call after noon Sunday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lawrence Tedrow officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be military services at the graveside.   --typed by Walt W
