VEEDERSBURG — Charles A. Read, 86, retired brick mason and building contractor, died at 7 a.m. Friday at the Rudisill Nursing Home in Covington, where he had been a patient for the past 11 months. Born near Veedersburg on Sept. 23, 1877, he was the son of William and Nancy Simmerman Read. He was married Sept. 21, 1901, to Kate Hamilton. Mr. Read was a member of the Sterling Christian Church. The survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Olsen of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Mildred Heaton of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Alta Paxton of Danville, Ill.; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Fred Read of Mobile, Ala. A son and a daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro, in charge of Rev. Alfred Dobbs. Burial will be in the Rockfield Cemetery at Veedersburg.   -- typed by Walt W

VEEDERSBURG – Charles A. Reed, 86, life resident of this community, died in the Rudisill Nursing Home at Covington at 7 a.m. Friday. He had been a patient there 11 months. Born near here, he was a retired brick mason and building contractor and was married to Kate Hamilton in 1902. He was a member of the Sterling Christian church. Surviving with the widow are three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Olsen of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Mildred Heaton of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Alta Paxton of Danville, Ill.; a son, Glen of Indianapolis, and a brother, Fred of Mobile, Ala.   – jlr
