Henry A. Reath, retired cement contractor and one time Fountain County school teacher, died suddenly of an internal hemorrhage of the throat about 8 a.m. Wednesday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Robert Berry of Hillsboro. Mr. Reath had gone to his daughter’s home when released Tuesday from Lake View Hospital where he had been a patient since July 19 with a throat condition.
Mr. Reath, who had lived near Alamo the past 33 years, was active in politics and widely known in Montgomery and Fountain Counties. He was born March 31, 1872 in Fountain County, the son of Caleb and Caroline Clevinyer Reath.
He was married June 22, 1892 to Etta Gossett with whom he celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary two years ago. Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Berry at whose home he died and Mrs. Geneva Anderson of Savoy, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Gosset of near Waynetown and Mrs. Sarah Booe of Alamo; a brother, Elam of near Alamo; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One son preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted a 2 p.m. Friday in the Grenard and Servies Funeral Home at Waynetown by the Rev. Guy E. Tremaine. Burial will be in Bonebrake Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home until the hour of the services. – s-
Henry A. Reath, 72, who was removed from Lake View Hospital, Danville, Ill Tuesday afternoon to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Berry of Hillsboro died about 9:00 o'clock Wednesday morning. Internal hemorrhage of the throat was given as the cause of death. He had been a medical patient at Lake View since July 19.
Henry Reath, widely known in Montgomery and Fountain counties, had resided in the vicinity of Alamo for 33 years. He was a cement contractor and in his earlier life taught school in Fountain County. He took an active part in politics.
The son of Caleb and Caroline Clevinger (sic) Reath, he was born in Fountain County March 31, 1872. On June 26, 1892, he was married to Etta Gossett, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their Alamo home two years ago.
Survivors include the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Geneva Anderson, of Savoy, Ill and Mrs. Lucille Berry of Hillsboro. One son preceded him in death. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Emma Gossett of near Waynetown; Mrs. Sarah Booe of near Alamo; one brother, Elam Reath of near Alamo; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The body was removed to the Grenard & Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown where funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, with Rev. Guy E. Tremaine of Waynetown officiating. Burial will be in Bonebrake Cemetery --- transcribed by kbz
