WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. (CNS) – Clarence “Doggie” Read, 82, of Williamsport Route 2, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 20, 1974) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill. He had been a patient 19 days. Born Dec. 21, 1891, at Morgantown, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Read. He married Edith Miller, who died in 1945. He then married Margaret Bush, who died in 1958. On Dec. 9, 1958, he married Norma Beatrice Bush, who survives. A former resident of West Lebanon and Attica, Mr. Read had resided on Williamsport Route 2 since 1932. He taught in Brown County before joining the Army in 1917. He retired in 1969 from the Asphalt Corporation of America in Danville. Other survivors include a son, Clarence James of Williamsport Route 2; three step-sons, Keith Nelson Emory of Sidell, Ill., Denton E. Emory of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Richard Eugene Goans of Hume, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Gary (Sandra) Snokes of Sidell; a brother, Everett of Morgantown; and 24 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a stepson, a sister and brother. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Horne, with the Rev. Archie Kent officiating. Burial will be in West Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.   -– jlr
