Myrtle E. Ephlin Ratcliff, daughter of William and Semira Lindley Ephlin, was born Nov. 4, 1877 at Harveysburg, Indiana, and died March 17, 1947 at her home which she made with her son, Fred, at Crawfordsville, where everything humanly possible was done to make her last days pleasant and comfortable.

Myrtle as a girl and young woman lived at home and enjoyed all its privileges. On April 20, 1891 she was united in marriage to Hamilton Ratcliff.

In the several neighborhoods where she lived, she always made and kept a host of friends. She always had a cheery smile and a word of good cheer for everyone. The weather was never too bad or the night too dark to keep her from doing a neighborly or charitable act to any and all in need.

During the last eight years of her mother’s life, she devoted her entire time to the mother’s every wish and care, and was never happier than when trying to make others happy. To know here was to love her.

She was a member of the following organizations: Order of the Eastern Star 204, Daughters of Union Veterans, United Brethren Church and Ladies Aid of Kingman, the Suburban Stitchers Club of Crawfordsville.

To Hamilton and Myrtle Ratcliff two children were born. The father passed on March 18, 1929. One brother, John Horace Ephlin, preceded her in death in 1939. Surviving are the two sons, Fred E. Ratcliff of Crawfordsville and Park J. Ratcliff of Indianapolis; two sisters, Ella Ratcliff of Danville, Ill. and Mary Sanders of Kingman; one brother, Willard Ephlin of Sullivan, Indiana; a number of nieces and nephews; three grandchildren; and a host of friends.- thanks so much to S&E
