RATCLIFF, Mildred - 1911
Source: Crawfordsville Review 16 Feb 1911 p 2
Mildred Ratcliff, youngest child of Sylvester and Alice Pavey Ratcliff was born in Covington, Ind Dec 28, 1898 and died Feb 26, 1911 at her home in Smartsburg, age 13 years, 1 month 4 days. She was first afflicted with pneumonia and after her physician got this disease under control peritonitis developed which was the immediate cause of her death. Mourned by all who knew her, little Mildred’s spirit took its flight to that beautiful home where conditions are such that the most ennobling traits of character possessed by this little girl will continue to develop in beauty and purity without hindrance or restraint. Mildred was as a ray of sunshine in the home circle, in her school room and among her neighbors and friends. She was industrious, intelligent, self-sacrificing, kind and always genteel and polite. Even when the death angel was nearing her bed to bear her over the dark river of death for any attention paid her by her nurse or friends she would gently whisper “thank you.” She leaves to mourn her loss a heart-broken mother, one sister, Ruby who is a senior in the Kingman HS; two brothers, Arnot and Joe, at home. Her father and one sister, Bessie preceded her home several years ago. Her body was taken to the home of her uncle, Dr. Ratcliff in Kingman on Friday, Feb 3, where the funeral was preached the next day in the Methodist Church. Interment was on the family lot in the Harveysburg cemetery. – kbz
