Dr. Frank W. Ratcliff, 95, of Lafayette, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2000 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where he had been a patient five days. Born November 16, 1904 in Sullivan, he was raised in Kingman and moved to Lafayette in 1928. After retirement in 1975, he wintered in Sarasota, Florida. A 1922 Kingman High School graduate, he received his bachelor’s degree in 1926 and doctor of medicine degree in 1928, both from Indiana University. He served as an intern at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. In 1929, he joined Dr. Floyd T. Romberger in anesthesiology practice. On December 20, 1930, he married Mary Holt in Wolcott. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1997. Dr. Ratcliff was a U. S. Army veteran, serving as surgical administrator at New Orleans Station Hospital and later Hines Army Hospital of Chicago, during World War II. He began his service as a captain and was discharged as a lieutenant colonel. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association, American Board of Anesthesiologists, American College of Surgeons and a life member of American Legion Post 11. He was past president of Tippecanoe County Medical Society and St. Elizabeth Medical Staff. In 1978, he was honored by St. Elizabeth Medical Center for 50 years of service. Surviving, are; a daughter, Dr. Anabel R. (Wiley A.) Jones of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Mary LuAnn Jones of Lafayette, W. D. Lynn Jones of Birmingham, Ala., and Warren Wagner of Boston; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and a sister. Visitation was Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Service on Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Phillip Emerson officiating. Entombment in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum, West Lafayette.
