Donald D. Ratcliff, 53, band
director in Remington HS was stricken with a fatal heart attack Sunday evening.
He was dead on arrival at Home Hospital, Lafayette. Born in Fountain County, he was graduated
from Crawfordsville HS, Butler University and Jordan Conservatory of Music.
Before coming to Remington he taught music in the schools at Plainfield,
Fairmount, Kingman, Ambia and Pike Township near Indianapolis and had been
choral director in Rockville School. Mr.
Ratcliff was an Army Veteran of WWII, a member of the Christian Church at Crawfordsville,
American Legion Post 280 of Remington, the Indiana State Teachers association
and Indiana Music Association. Surviving with the widow, Mildred are a
daughter, Mrs. Patty Brown of Dana, three sons, John of Crawfordsville, Jacob
of Kingman and Joe of Lancaster, Wis and a sister, Mrs. Vivian Cox of
Claremont, Illinois. Also four grandchildren survive. Services will be held at
Kingman at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with Rev. HG Kollmeyer of Seymour officiation.
Interment will be in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery. - kbz

Mr. Ratcliff was born March 20, 1915, in Fountain County, Ind., the son of Scott and Elsie Brigges Ratcliff. He was band director of Remington High School, Remington, Ind., and a member of the Christian Church o f Crawfordsville. Mr. Ratcliff was an Army veteran of World War II. He belonged to the Indiana State Teacher's Association, Indiana Music Association and the Remington American Legion Post 280. He was graduated from Crawfordsville High School, Butler University and Jordan Conservatory of Music. Mr. Ratcliff taught music in Plainfield, Fairmount, Kingman, Rockville, Ambia and Pike Township High Schools. He is survived by his widow, Mildred; a daughter, Mrs. Patty Brown, Dana; three sons, Jack, Kingman, Joe, Lancaster, Wis., and Johnny Crawfordsville; a sister; Mrs. Vivian Cox, Claymount, Del.; and four grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Woodrow Funeral Home, Kingman, with the Rev. H. G. Kohlmeyer, Seymour, Ind., officiating. Burial will be in the Kingman Fraternal Cemetery.
