Covington -- Claude Ratcliff, 78, d. 11:45 a.m. Wed, Dec 4 at Danville Care Nursing Home, Danville, Ill where he had been since June. Mr. Ratcliff was born July 30, 1890 in Fulton Twp, Fountain County, the son of William M. and Nannie Sowers Ratcliff . He was married to Mabel Teague February 19, 1913. Mrs. Ratcliff preceded him in death on May 22, 1966. A life resident of Fountain County, he was a farmer near Kingman until 1949 when he moved to Covington. Mr. Ratcliff was a member of the FIrst United Methodist Church, Covington, a 50- year member of Kingman Lodge 314 F&AM Fountain Chapter 204 Order of Eastern Star, Kingman and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was the original director of Fountain County Soil Conservation District. Surviving one daughter, Mrs William T (Evelyn) Shaffer of Danville, Ill; one son, Delbert of Kingman; 9 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Dot Rector of Anderson, Mo. 3 sons, one brother and one sister preceded him. Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral home here. The Rev. PJ Hamilton officiated. Burial in Kingman Fraternal cem. Memorial Masonic services were conducated at the funeral home Thursday evening.
