Clara M. Ratcliff, 86, of Covington, died at 2:10 a. m. Wednesday (September 21, 1988) at USMC, Logan Campus. She was born June 13, 1902 in Piatt County, Ill., daughter of Maurice M. and Blanche Claypool Young. She married Mont Dewlen on Oct. 16, 1920. He died Oct. 16, 1942. She later married Everett Ratcliff on Sept. 14, 1952. He died February 14, 1977. Survivors: a daughter-in-law, Naomi Dewlen of Covington; seven grandchildren, Phillip Dewlen and Jim Ritenour, both of Covington, Tom Dewlen of Indianapolis, Mrs. Jeanie Cooke of Danville, Mrs. Vickie Beasley of Stone Bluff, Mrs. Melody Ellsperman of Evansville and Mrs. Robin Adams of Rochester; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother William C. Young of Covington; a sister, Myra Coffing of Newtown. She was preceded in death by two sons, four sisters and a brother. She was a resident of Troy Township most of her life. She graduated from Covington High School in 1920. She was a former employee of Hegg Lumber Company and Charles Denton Income Tax. She operated her own income tax service for several years. She was secretary of Mount Hope Cemetery Board from 1953-1987. She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Troy Chapter 145 OES, Rural Troy Home Economics Club, Fountain County Democrat Women's Club, Pythian Sisters, Book Lovers and Mu Epsilon Lambda. Services: 11 a. m. Friday at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington; Officiating: Rev. Wayne Hoover and Paul Ziebert; Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery; Visitation: 4-8 p. m. Thursday at the funeral home.
