Mary Gordan Ramsey of Covington, age 70, died Thursday morning, August 26, at her home. She was born at Plainfield, New Jersey, December 13, 1911, the daughter of Carl Albert and Emily Lawrence Winant Steiner. After the death of her parents, she was adopted at the age of eight by a great uncle and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Alfred Steiner of Summit, New Jersey. In 1947, she married Dr. Glenn V. Ramsey, who survives. They lived in Princeton, New Jersey, and later at Austin, Texas, and maintained a second home in Covington for many years.
Mrs. Ramsey was a recognized artist and was a member of the Pen and Brush Club of New York City, the Texas Watercolor Society and the Texas Fine Arts Association. She graduated from Kent Place School in New Jersey in 1929 and from Smith College in 1933. She attended Sorbonne University at Paris, France, during her junior year.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kim E. Ramsey of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Scott Dixon Ramsey of Bertram, Texas; an aunt, Miss Annetta Steiner of Plainfield, New Jersey; and two cousins, Shirley Moore of New York City and Leto Copeley of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church at Covington with burial in the family plot in Mount Hope Cemetery at Covington. DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga was in charge of arrangements.
