PUGH, S Sgt Glenn V. - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

The body of S. Sgt Glen V. (Victor) Pugh arrived in Cayuga at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday April 13.  The body was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hazelwood at Lodi to await funeral services, which were held Thursdays at 2 p.m. at the Rush Creek Church.  Rev. Ralph Hubble officiated.  Burial was in Rush Creek Cemetery in __ of Watson Funeral director.  Pallbearers were Donald Grimes, Paul Hunt, John Mendenhall, Bill Graves, Morris Jackson and Gene Dotson. The Kingman American Legion Post conducted military services.  Sgt Pugh was born in Eagle Butte, SD March 17, 1922 a son of the late John and Fay Pugh, was graduated from Tangier School in 1940.  He entered the Army Dec 12, 1942 and received basic training at Camp Philips, Kansas.  He was sent overseas in August 1944, with an infantry regiment of the 94th Division.  He was with the Third Army when he was killed in Germany Jan 28, 1945.  He was married to Miss Edith Grubbs of Lodi August 7, 1943.  He is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Lucille Hazelwood of Lodi and Mrs. Mary Ray, Kingman RR; and Miss Charlotte Pugh of Tangier and one brother, Gene Pugh of Silverwood.

S/Sgt Glen V. Pugh, 23, husband of Mrs. Edith Pugh of Liberty Township (Parke County) was killed in action in Germany Jan 28, according to a telegram from the War Department to his wife.  S/Sgt Pugh first Liberty Township boy to lose his life in the present war was in an infantry regiment of the 94th Division.  He entered service Dec 12, 1942 taking training in Camp McCain, Miss and Camp Phillips Kan and was sent overseas in August 1944.  S/Sgt Pugh had been awarded the infantryman’s badge, sharpshooter and hand grenade medals and a good conduct ribbon.  He was graduated from Tangier HS with the class of 1940.  Surviving are his widow, formerly Miss Edith L. Grubbs, three sisters, Mrs. Paul Hazelwood of Lodi, Ind; Miss Mary Pugh, Danville, Ill and Charlotte Pugh of Tangier and a grandmother, Mrs. Mary Konkler of Eagle Butte, SD. -- – thanks to Bren M for sending this one – ~~~Transcribed and Type by kbz
