Attica – Retired Attica optometrist Dr. William D. Pfeifer, 72, of 1112 Alder Drive, Lafayette died at 8:17 p.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been hospitalized three days. Born in Tippecanoe County he was reared near Marshfield and lived in Crawfordsville two years before moving to Attica in 1938. He was a 1929 graduate of West Lebanon HS, a 1930 graduate of Lafayette Business College and in 1936 graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry. In 1941 he was married in Lafayette to Glenna Deane Hunger who died in 1952. He was married in 1970 to Kathleen Kingery who survives.
Dr. Pfiefer served in the Army during WWII. From 1938 until 1978 he had an office in Attica. After retiring he moved to Lafayette. Dr. Pfeifer was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lafayette, a life member of both Indiana and American Optometric Associations. He also was a former member of Attica Lions Club, Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club and Knights of Pythias. Surviving with the widow are two sons, James W. Pfeifer of San Diego and John D. Pfeifer of Bloomington; a stepdaughter, Colleen Cunningham of Dayton; two stepsons, John M. Cunningham of Lose Angeles Calif and Roger Cunningham of Oceanside, Calif; a brother, Dr. Harold A. Pfeifer of Wabash and five sisters, Miss Florence Pfeifer, Mrs. Mildred Dancer and Mrs. Marie Decker, all of Lafayette, Mrs. Elsie Brelsford of West Lafayette and Mrs. Pauline Caldwell of Canoga Park, Calif. --- kbz
