"Wilmer G. Purple, 75, of Veedersburg, died at 9:10 a.m., September 20, 1999 at United Samaritan Hospital, Logan Campus, in Danville, Illinois. Born March 9, 1924 in Cates, he was the son of Albert Z. and Cathryn Witsman Purple. He married Vera Bailey, April 18, 1941 in Covington. She preceded him in death in 1993. Purple was employed as a truck driver for the Hegg Lumber Company in Covington and for the Petrolane Gas Company. He was also a member of the F.O. Eagles Club in Attica. Survivors include: brothers, Harlen (Mary Lou) Covington, William (Ruth), Kingman; sisters, Elva Bailey, Covington, Frances (Eldon) Quick, Rantoul, Illinois, Betty (Don) Scheurich, Attica, Shirley Craft of Danville, Illinois; sons, Gene (Carolyn) and Gary both of Veedersburg; daughters, Karol Oaks, Attica, Joyce (Ron) Shamp, Veedersburg; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating." – jlr
