Ira Edgar Purple, age 75, of 1203 Third St., a life resident of Covington, died at 11:10 a. m. Friday, April 2, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient five days. Mr. Purple was born Sept. 17, 1889 in Covington, the son of William and Mary Lucas Purple. He married Jennie Weaver on April 21, 1932. He worked on section gangs for the New York Central, Nickel Plate, and Wabash railroads. He also was employed as is teamster in the Covington area. Surviving are: one son, John Purple of Covington; one daughter, Mrs. Patsy Mycroft of Attica; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Grinner of Elkhart and Mrs. Della Dillard of Calumet City; and three brothers, Albert of Covington, Hershel of Lawton, Mich., and Elmer of Covington Rt. 2. He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Edgar Allen, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Wilmer Purple, Bill Purple, Charles Purple, Kenneth Hutson, Lawrence Craft, Robert Lanser, and Robert Smith, nephews; and Paul Bailey. --typed by Walt W
