-- Mrs. Sam (Odessa Furr) Purnell of Veedersburg, mother of Fred S. Purnell congressman from this district died Monday at 12 o'clock at since a week ago Sunday and had been critically ill the past two or three days. She was not regarded as serious until lately. The deceased was 55 years old a member of the Christian Church and had lived most of her life in Fountain County. She is survived besides her husband by one sister, Mrs. IM Kerr of Veedersburg and 3 children, Fred S. Purnell now of Washington, Miss Helen residing at home and Mrs. Warner Booe of DuPont, Fla. Funeral arrangements are not completed. -- kbz

Mrs. SJ Purnell died at her home in Veedersburg this morning after several weeks illness with heart trouble. Her maiden name was Odessa Furr and she was 58 years of age being born and having always lived in this county. She leaves a husband, a son, Fred S. Purnell and a daughter, Mrs. Warben A. Booe. Congressman Fred S. Purnell was summoned from Washington several weeks ago when his mother was in critical condition and since then her condition varied, lately giving hope of at least temporary recovery.

The funeral of Mrs. SF Purnell will be held on the lawn at the home in Veedersburg at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. The lawn was chosen because of the churches being closed as a preventive of the influenza epidemic
