Corporal John M. Puckett, age 46, former resident of the Kingman community, died at Dale, Indiana on Friday afternoon at 1:40 o’clock. Corporal Puckett was born on Nov. 8, 1897 in Douglas County, Illinois, the son of Henry and Allie Spry Puckett. He had lived at Kingman when a young man. He graduated from the Kingman High School with the class of 1917. He had been employed as an auto mechanic until about twenty years ago. At that time he became a partner of the Foults Construction Company and had continued in that work until his induction into the armed forces in October 1942. He was a member of the Kingman United Brethren Church and the Masonic Lodge. While in training at Tacoma, Wash., he underwent an operation for a throat trouble about one year ago. Upon receiving a sick leave from the army, he returned to his work near Dale, where his death occurred. Besides the parents, the survivors include one sister, Mrs. Elba Johnson of Anderson; two brothers, Glenwood of Covington and Montell of Kingman; and one nephew, David Lee Puckett. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Kingman United Brethren Church. Burial was made in the Fraternal Cemetery near Kingman.- thanks so much to “S”

John M., oldest son of Henry H. and Daisy A. Puckett, was born in Douglass County, Murdock, Ill., Nov. 8, 1897. In the year 1910 he came to Kingman with is parents and here he grew to manhood and attended the schools, graduating from high school in 1917.
For several years he worked in a garage in Kingman, and then joined the Foulkes Contracting Company, working with them until 1938. Then, this company sold out to the L. and K. Contracting Company and John was made general superintendent of the company, for whom he was working at the time of his death on Aug. 4, 1944 at Dale, Indiana.
John was a member of the United Brethren Church at Kingman, joining in November 1911. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Isaac Walton League. He served one year in the United States Army and was discharged after a throat operation, which later caused his death.
This being the first break in the family, he leaves to mourn his passing, his father and mother, one sister, Elva Johnson of Anderson, two brothers, Montelle of Kingman and Glenwood of Covington and one nephew, Davey Lee Puckett of Kingman.

Funeral services were held at two o’clock Monday afternoon for John M. Puckett who died in Dale Friday from a throat ailment.

A short prayer was
given by the Rev. B. H. Spratt before leaving the house and was continued at
the church by the Rev. Lucy Sharp. A quartet, Scott Ratcliff, Byron Grismore,
William Sowers and Hiram Brown, sang. The Rev. H. A. Lashbrook of Terre Haute gave the
sermon and the Rev. Mr. Spratt read the obituary. Burial was made in the
Fraternal Cemetery where the Masonic Lodge of Kingman presented the last
rites. Pall bearers were Claude
Ratcliff, Paul Spratt, Leslie Gillum, Joe Starkey, Wayne Miller and Edward
Moore. Flower bearers were Gladys and Kay McKnight, Teresa McAllister, Virginia
Sowers, Mildred Dillon, Opal Jackson, Margaret Muller, Mary Ellen Jackson, Lana
Miller, Margaret Lindley, Joan Ratcliff, Marjorie Thompson, Maude Cory,
Florence Thompson, Ruby Miller, Aline Smith, Phyllis Kiger, Josephine Jones,
Norma Jean Adkins, Irene Carter, Sara Mucellen, Pauline Anderson, Lillian
Jennings, Lavica White and Mary Jane Mann.
Friends from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs.
