Danville, Ill.—Russell Edward Powell, 71, Danville, died at 2:55 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 1989 at Veterans Administration Medical Center.

  He was born July 24, 1917 in Danville, the son of Thomas W. and Emma Lockhart Powell. He was married March 25, 1961 in Hoopeston, Ill. to Jennie Gail Livengood, who preceded him in death Aug. 14, 1987.

  He was employed as a boiler operator at Lakeview Hospital for over 25 years, retiring in 1979. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

  Surviving are a son, Russell Terry; three daughters, Betty Williams in Minnesota; Zella Darnell, Attica, and Gretchen Daffin, Hamilton, Mont.; two stepsons, Harry R. Miller, Danville, and Gary D. Miller, Catlin, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Jean Leigh and Beverly A. Dieu, both of Danville, and Donna F. Watson, Clinton; a brother, Robert, Danville; a sister, Iva Morgan, Oakwood, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Lula Powell, Tilton, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; 19 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, a grandson, a step grandson, a step granddaughter, five brothers and a sister.

  Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday at Lakeside Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Livengood officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 210. – s
