Lafayette—Margaret E. Gephart Powell, 66, 3783 Ashley Oakes Drive, Lafayette, died at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 1989 in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center. She had been hospitalized since April 12 and ill for the past year.

  She was born Dec. 2, 1922 in Straughn. She was married Aug. 1, 1942 in Lewisville to Kenneth M. Powell, who survives. He is retired from Public Service Indiana. He had been an area manager and an assistant to the vice president of Public Service Indiana’s Southern Indiana Division.

  She graduated from Straughn High school and attended Ball State University.

  She and her husband lived in Lafayette from 1967 until 1970 and returned there in 1988 from Clearwater, Fla., where they had lived since 1985. They also had lived in New Castle, Kokomo, Attica, Sullivan and Columbus.

  While living in Lafayette, Mrs. Powell was employed as a secretary at Cary Quadrangle at Purdue University.

  Surviving besides her husband are a son, James M., West Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Nicholas, Kokomo, and Mrs. William (Barbara) Carmichael, Mulberry; two sisters, Mrs. James (Hilda) Laughlin and Mrs. Tillman (Marjorie) Gentry, both of New Castle; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

  Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hippensteel chapel with the Rev. Dr. James Tozer officiating. Entombment will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum. – thanks to S
